Basement Blues

I’ve been asked a number of times this morning about the status of our basement, so I thought I’d post something here to send people to.
Background: A few weeks ago I noticed a pool of water (that was drying) in our storage room that came from the walls under our sauna. (Yes, we have a sauna, don’t you?) I also noticed that when I walked into our guest bedroom on the other side of the bedroom my socks got wet. Common theme, sauna and adjoining wall with our neighbours. We own a townhouse.
I wandered over to check and see if the neighbours were having any issues and he proceeded to take me downstairs which looked like Hurricane Katrina II had rolled through. Ahh, the source of the leak was a toilet pump at the neighbours house. Regardless, the way the insurance situation works, we had to put a claim through.
Since then we’ve had Yaletown Restoration dealing with the mess. Kim, the project manager is awesome and they really know what they are doing. Unfortunately, the problems at the neighbour’s house have taken priority as they had to deal with the source otherwise the symptoms would just keep coming back. And back they have come. A week ago, they did not think we had mold on our walls at all. Friday they ripped out 2 feet off the bottom of the drywall along the adjoining wall and found mold. Instead of putting new drywall on, they left it open to dry. Unfortunately, the neighbours are serious smokers and I had to seal the room to keep the smoke from filling our house. It was pretty nasty.
So now we’re waiting to find out the next steps.

Thanks Kel,
They did come in and patch the one wall so the smoke wouldn’t have an easy path in. Still no word on how long it will take to get our basement back.

did you inhale?

I can’t answer that as I’m considering a run for President.

I hear you about the smoke. We can smell it in our stairwell and storage area under the stairs with the drywall on. I can’t imagine what it would be like with it off. Yuck.

I hadn’t noticed it before, just when the drywall was off.

It’s a wordpress blog and I think you just spammed me. But it was funny so I just changed the link to a no-follow until the point that you respond back with something to do with the actual post.
