The server I am on at Dreamhost is having some up-down issues today.
Amazingly, this is the first time that I have experienced more than a few minutes of downtime. We’ll see if the happy Dreamhost people will give me a report on what they are doing to keep this from occurring in the future.
It is shared hosting though and really cheap. Which brings up the “You get what you pay for” quote that I use at least once a week.
UPDATE: Dreamhost has finally come out with news that it was a DOS (Denial of Service) attack.

I have been very happy with shared hosting that I have from DreamHost. I have:
Debian Linux
20 GB of disk space
1 terabyte of bandwidth
Unlimited domains
675 email addresses
PHP, Perl, MySQL, Jabber, WebDAV, Subversion, Ruby on Rails, WordPress, Gallery, phpBB, etc.
and the customer support is fantastic.
and it’s only $7.95/month though I don’t really pay anything because I make $97 off of referrals so it pays for itself and gives me a bit of extra income. I have been very, very pleased with them.

Marc, did you even read my post?
It looks like you are just wanting people to click on your dreamhost link instead of mine so you get referrals.
I\’m really having trouble seeing this as anything other than a spam comment. Unless you respond, I\’m going to have to treat it as such.

Sorry, wrong tab in Firefox. You can go ahead and delete the comment - I don’t want to steal any of your referrals.
Anyways, I have had intermittent problems with DreamHost occasionally but usually nothing that would take my site down and never anything that lasted for more than a few minutes at a time. I think the worst problem was some intermittent access to the control panel about a month ago, which they’ve long since fixed.
I didn’t notice any problems with my site around the time of your post, but then don’t watch my site like a hawk.
That said, I’m sure that all web hosts have their ups and downs and I still think that DreamHost is a good deal for the money.

I agree, I’ll leave your comment up as it initially looked like a robot crawled technorati for anything wordpress and spammed the blog. But since you are a real person, I’ll let it be.
I too, am happy with DreamHost. For the money, I don’t think they can be beat but lately this site and my other ones have been doing the yoyo.
My latest question to support was answered in a timely manner and they let me know that there are configuration issues with the server I am on. They are “working on it.”
I hope they find out what the problem is.
